Women Empowerment: Time To Change The Hierarchy

In India, women have historically played an important role in building mythology and ethical society. However, from a young age, they are treated as the property of men, with limited opportunities to fulfil their own dreams and aspirations.

Indian society has historically confined its daughters and wives to the domestic sphere, limiting their exposure and opportunities to explore the world and make their own choices.
Throughout history, some of the most unequal practices, such as ‘Sati Pratha’ and ‘Child Marriages’, have continuously undermined the dignity of women in the nation.

But now women are not bound to anyone for anything at all. They have carved their way out by sheer strength and perseverance to have a better life for themselves. The Indian society, which was at the 140th rank in Gender Equality out of 156 countries is known as being one of the most influential parts of the world.

Women have faced many obstacles and challenges, yet they have been able to overcome their lack of education and increase the literacy rate from 39% in 1981 to 71% in 2021.

In addition, women have made significant progress in holding positions in administration, non-profit organizations, and profit organizations. Over the past decade, the number of women in the workforce has increased by 2%, a significant achievement in a society that once upheld practices such as Sati.

On the other hand, Government has also been a great aid to this development by launching various projects like “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” (Save Girl Child, Educate Girl Child), “Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana” (Maternity Benefit Program), and “Ujjawala Yojana” (Scheme To Provide LPG in Every Household).

The government is helping women in securing better lives for themselves by helping them with education, job opportunities, and availability of food even. NGOs like Mohit Gupta Foundation are also working to uplift the status of women in society and to help them be more confident in the workplace.

However, there are still a lot of challenges that need to be addressed as women are facing discrimination in schools, colleges, and even in the workplace. Their potential is being compared with the men out there, and making them feel vulnerable in society.

Violence in the households has also been reported more often as the woman now takes a stand for her dignity and values, which makes men offended, and depraved. Incidents like rape, human trafficking, and domestic violence are increasing every other day, making it more difficult for women to go out safely.

Our Moral Duty

It is our moral duty to protect and maintain the dignity of women in our society. We must be prepared to make sacrifices to ensure that their values and ethics are respected and supported. Women have given birth to us, and now it is our turn to repay that debt by empowering them and raising their status in society.

Let us take a pledge to uphold the dignity of every woman, whether we know them or not. In this way only, we can create something beautiful for every human being.
